Genevieve is an expert on autonomy support within hierarchical relationships. She is a full professor at the Psychology Department of the University of Montreal, director of the Research Laboratory on Autonomy Support, and co-leader of the How to Project, which evaluates the parenting program How to talk so kids will listen & how to listen so kids will talk. She obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Quebec at Montreal, where she conducted motivational research. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship on socialization at McGill University. Geneviève published over fifty scientific papers on autonomy support and human motivation, many of which have become key references in the field. Cited more than 9,000 times, her work is mostly known for its contribution in defining what is autonomy support, identifying its determinants and understanding its impact. She also contributed in important ways to the definition of autonomy support in high structure situations, such as when providing feedback or enforcing rules. Bringing this expertise to reROOT, she plays a major role in the conception of the proposed workshops.
