Our Mission

Whether in sports or at work, reROOT works to increase the quality of hierarchical relationships.

Through workshops and conferences, we support coaches and leaders in learning autonomy-supportive communication that satisfies the universal psychological needs.

It is a new language that promotes high quality motivation, well-being and optimal functioning in athletes and employees.

Our mission is to create a brighter future by creating environments in which humans bloom.

Our vision is a world where all humans are autonomously motivated, happy and performant.

Our Values

Our mindset is rooted in our true human nature as defined by scientific motivational research. reROOT's compass points towards Self-Determination Theory (SDT). SDT is an empirically based theory of human motivation, which proposes that the type or quality of a person's motivation is key to promote optimal functioning, that is proactive and prosocial behaviors, well-being and high performances. Hence, reROOT focuses on how to create the conditions that facilitate people’s optimal motivation, while removing the obstacles that hinder it.

Our Story

The inspiration for reROOT can be traced back to the 6th International Conference of Self-Determination Theory held in June 2016 in Victoria, British Columbia.

Dr. Richard Ryan, one of the founders of SDT, asked the audience: “Have we forgotten our true nature?” He was referring to the fact that human beings naturally seek opportunities to learn and develop to their full potential, without others having to promise them rewards or threaten to punish them. Those words stayed with us from that point forward, leading us to notice the far too frequent instances where human motivation is hindered when it could have been nurtured.

On that day, as we were admiring Canadian nature and Victoria’s unique view on the Rocky mountains and Pacific ocean, our search for meaning converged into a common purpose. Suddenly, it became clear to the five of us that our unique and complementary backgrounds, expertise and knowledge in science, sports and business, if united, could successfully promote people’s motivation and optimal functioning. Whether people wish to support others in their favorite sport or in a business environment, reROOT was going to help them.

A few months later in 2017, our collective reROOT came to life in Montreal.
