Geneviève A. Mageau

Genevieve is an expert on autonomy support within hierarchical relationships. She is a full professor at the Psychology Department of the University of Montreal, director of the Research Laboratory on Autonomy Support, and co-leader of the How to Project, which evaluates the parenting program How to talk so kids will listen & how to listen so kids will talk. She obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Quebec at Montreal, where she conducted motivational research. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship on socialization at McGill University. Geneviève published over fifty scientific papers on autonomy support and human motivation, many of which have become key references in the field. Cited more than 9,000 times, her work is mostly known for its contribution in defining what is autonomy support, identifying its determinants and understanding its impact. She also contributed in important ways to the definition of autonomy support in high structure situations, such as when providing feedback or enforcing rules. Bringing this expertise to reROOT, she plays a major role in the conception of the proposed workshops.

 

 

Jacques Forest

SPEAKER, MOTIVATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Jacques holds a doctorate degree in organizational psychology and has completed postdoctoral studies on the same topic. He is currently an organizational psychologist and a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) as well as a professor-researcher on work motivation at the UQAM School of management science. He received an award in 2006 for his abilities in scientific popularization and, in 2011, he received the rising star award in research from his business school. Jacques has given 225 conferences or intervention in more than 9 countries and is one of the co-authors of the Multidimensional Work Motivation Scale, a scientifically-validated scale which measure the different types of motivation in 13 different languages and currently translated in 8 other languages. His work is grounded in positive psychology and verifies when and how it is possible to reconcile performance and well-being at work.

Joëlle Carpentier

Joëlle is a professor-researcher at the UQAM School of management science. She holds a doctorate degree (Université de Montréal) in social psychology and has completed postdoctoral studies (McGill University) on the same topic. She also completed a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration at HEC-Montréal. During her graduate studies, she specialized herself in sport psychology and became an expert in the coach-athlete relationship. A former elite athlete and coach, she contributes to coaches training in Quebec since 2009. She also acts as a performance psychology consultant with athletes, coaches and organizations. She now shares the knowledge and experience she acquired in sport with business leaders. In addition to her applied expertise, the quality of her research on optimal feedback has also been recognized through numerous prizes and distinctions (Certificate of academic excellence, Canadian Psychological Association, Guy-Bégin Prize, Société Québécoise pour la Recherche en Psychologie, Best doctoral thesis of the Psychology Department, Université de Montréal, etc.).

 

 

Jean-Paul Richard

Jean-Paul Richard was a Freestyle World Cup coach for several years. With international experience, he worked in Sweden, where he helped develop and implement programs of excellence for coaches and athletes, and led the Swedish National Mogul Ski Team at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. Back in Canada, he coached the Canadian Women's Freestyle Ski Team, where he developed and applied a coaching approach aimed at creating well-being and performance environments, enabling the Dufour-Lapointe sisters to win gold and silver medals at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. 

 Following his Olympic successes, he moved into performance management, most notably as Manager of Team Services at the Canadian Olympic Committee, to share and participate in the successes of all sports in Canada. He also acquired his experience through various management positions at Cirque du Soleil, where he was able to support the members of his teams while fostering the development of an innovative and creative environment for artists. It is in this spirit that Jean-Paul continues to share his experience and passion, with a particular interest in teaching tangible principles of leadership, with the intention of sharing and teaching the skills of self-determination, promoting human and organizational development.

Sophie Gadoury

Volleyball was her first passion; a former player, coach and responsible for coaching development at the national level with Volleyball Canada, her childhood dream of representing her country at the Olympics has guided her throughout her development. Sophie was firstly particularly interested in the optimal conditions of the hierarchical coach-athlete relationship in the performance psychology option during her graduate studies (University of Montreal). During her four years at the Canadian Olympic Committee, Sophie had the opportunity to support the Canadian teams in optimizing their well-being and performance in a context of high sport performance at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia and at 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil. She then created and developed with M. Robert Dutton the Parcours Leadership Carabins, a unique and complementary learning program focused on leadership for student athletes from the Université de Montréal.

Her childhood dream now achieved, Sophie then gave herself the challenge to support the development of well-being and performance in the business world this time where she has been evolving from then on at Connect&GO. She was able to play an important role as being the first person head of the culture and engagement in this tech company in Montreal. Her main responsibilities, through which the science of motivation is implemented daily, evolve around talent management, performance management, career and development management, organizational culture, mental health and the engagement of team members at work.

Finally, Sophie created nimble bubble, a community that mobilizes and equips employees of all statuses and titles who wish to play an active role in creating the tomorrow’s business world so that together, we can make the business ecosystem of a workplace filled with meaning, pleasure and empathy.
